Posted by admin in I started using Ubuntu 8.10 (Intrepid Ibex) at work. I had an issue getting Pidgin to connect to Google Talk. The default port for this is 5222, but I think this port is being blocked by the firewall here. Gtalk works just fine in Windows because it falls back to using an HTTP/SSL connection on port 443 in this case.
I setup Pidgin to mimic this fallback and got it connecting correctly. Here are the setup screens to simplify explaining what I had to do.
